Director's Message: The Los Alamitos Unified School District takes pride in having exemplary Special Education Programs which recognize the worth and dignity of all children with special needs and their peers. It is the vision of our district that all students will thrive in a caring, respectful and encouraging environment where they can demonstrate academic excellence and develop unique talents in preparation for their future goals. We believe all of our students with disabilities can reach their full potential as members of society. We embrace parent/caregivers as collaborative partners in a process that promotes respect and trust. It is the commitment of our district to provide our students with a free and appropriate inclusive education through the use of scientifically researched based best practices. Los Alamitos Unified School District's special education programs offer a wide range of programs and services within the district attendance area that address the unique needs of students with disabilities from age 3 to 22. Students who qualify for special education support have individual education plans (IEPs) that specify performance levels, accommodations and modifications for the classroom, specialized services and individualized goals. Services and placements are based on each student's IEP. These plans are updated on an annual basis. As a member of the Greater Anaheim SELPA, we offer a full range of special education services that appropriately meet student needs. Los Al has a dedicated staff that provides services for students with disabilities ranging from mild learning disorders to severe physical and mental handicaps. Credentialed special education teachers, speech and language pathologists, occupational therapists, adapted physical education specialists and school psychologists make up our exceptional special education professionals. For answers to specific questions related to special education programs, parents are encouraged to contact their school principal or the Student Support Services office at (562) 799-4700 ext. 80420 Norma Del Rio, Director Student Support Services |
