We are looking forward to another great year of researching and learning in the Media Center.

Kindergarten students will attend the computer lab every week during a regularly scheduled 30 minute time block. They will be introduced to computers (mouse, keyboard, monitor), and have the opportunity to experience a variety of computer programs that will enhance their learning of new technologies. Education City, our online program, will grasp their attention in the areas of Language Arts, Science and Math.

First, second and third grade students will attend the media center/computer lab on weekly basis. Every week a new reading theme will be displayed, as well as quality literature to be 'heard'. Parent volunteers are encouraged to attend with their student's class and take part in the reading. A big comfortable rocking chair is available!!

Second and third grade students receive a lesson on distinguishing when it is time to use the right resource. For second grade students, the resources introduced and investigated are a dictionary, thesaurus and atlas. For third grade students the resources investigated are a dictionary, thesaurus, atlas and encyclopedia. 

First and second grader students are introduced to keyboarding using the software Kid Keys.  Third through fifth grade students use Paws.  The goal is for all 5th grade students to be proficient with keyboarding by the time they promote up to middle school.

Fourth grade students will research a California mission and by spring will have enough information to create a fabulous 6-sided learning cube to put on display. The learning cubes will be on display during Open House in the media center and every student will have a chance to present their findings to their peers in their REACH group.

Fifth grade students conduct research on one of our fabulous 50 states. The students will use both books and Internet sites to gather the information needed to create a PowerPoint presentation.  Fifth grade students will also contribute to our own 50 States Wiki. Determining the validity of a website is woven into the research process, as well as creating a Works Cited page when the research is complete. Students will share their PowerPoint presentation to small peer groups during their media center REACH time.
