Principal's Message

A YEAR of....CHANGE, GROWTH, SUCCESS!

Dear Parents and Students,

It is hard to believe that the school year is coming to a close. This has been a year filled with change, growth, and much success.

Mrs. Marlys Davidson and Mrs. Nancy Swensen are retiring at the end of the year after over 20 years of teaching in the Los Alamitos Unified School District. Mr. Chuck Wackerman is also retiring after 59 years of service! We will remember them fondly, and wish them only the best in the years to come.

Academics have been rigorous and engaging, and our students have met the challenge! At the end of the first semester over one thousand students made the honor roll, and we expect more students to thrive at the end of the second semester. I commend the hard work and perseverance of our students, the commitment of our teachers, and the love and support of our parents. McAuliffe’s school community is simply amazing, and it is a joy to work together to make sure our students are successful and ready to move forward. Thank you!

Throughout the school year, in addition to working with students, teachers have participated in a multitude of trainings to further their expertise with technology, instructional strategies, and the common core. Teachers have continued to create highly engaging and rigorous units of instruction to better serve all students. I am so appreciative of their dedication, collaboration, and hard work. Without the support of the Los Alamitos Board of Education and our district office administration none of this would have been able to take place.

Our arts program continues to be robust, with all of our performing groups earning honors in the County and beyond. Our elective programs have continued to grow and thrive, providing rich opportunities for students to discover their talents in art, music, drama, and technology. Our PE program has continued to provide outstanding daily instruction along with a diverse intramural program for all students. And with over 25 clubs on campus, students have had many opportunities to connect with one another and with our school.

We will miss our graduating class of 8th graders, but I feel confident that they are prepared for the rigors of high school. And to the parents and students who are moving on, I hope that you remember middle school fondly, and that you know that you are and always will be part of the McAuliffe school family. Staff, students, and families, enjoy a summer filled with rest, relaxation and adventure! Thanks for another memorable and unforgettable school year.

Sincerely,

Annie Allen, Principal

STEAM Fair 2016 a Hugh Success!

McAuliffe’s STEAM Fair, sponsored by LAEF, was held this past Friday and it was a remarkable event! With over 130 students participating, rooms 60 & 61 were filled with students’ experiments. Science classes visited throughout the day, and student presenters talked about their findings. A big thank you to Mrs. Ann Neufeld, coordinator of the event, and to all of the science teachers who assisted students with their experiment designs after school over the last few months. And another thank you to LAEF, for supporting McAuliffe students and STEAM education.
