    Room 27

Welcome to 3rd grade! I am so excited to be your child’s teacher and look forward to learning, creating, collaborating, and exploring with them.

    1.  Please turn in all forms if you haven't done so already as well as bring in an emergency kit.  Thank you so much to all the parents who have already turned everything in.

    2.  I'm always accepting donations for class store if you'd like to donate inexpensive items.

The students are earning credits in their bank accounts daily in order to save up for class store. We really appreciate any and all donations of fun, inexpensive class store items from the dollar section at Target, Dollar Tree store, etc. We welcome any small and inexpensive items because they are so excited about the rewards. I'm hoping to have several opportunities throughout the year for students to shop and redeem their hard earned credits in their bank accounts.  Thank you!

Students will write in their daily log every day, Monday through Thursday. Please sign or initial their daily log.  Daily homework will begin after BTSN. Homework should be a review of skills already learned in class.

*Includes 15-20 min. of reading (please write the # of minutes read each day on the monthly Reading Incentive log)

Reading Incentive Program:  Please record your child's reading minutes on the monthly logs.  Any misplaced logs can be downloaded through the PTA website.  Students should read at least 15-20 minutes daily as part of regular homework.  Those are due at the end of each month and I usually collect them starting a day early, just to give parents and students some extra time to turn them in.  Please make sure you tally up the total minutes read each month and make sure your child's name is on the calendar.

Current goal: ____% (expected to increase about 10% each month, 100% by the end of April in time for state testing)

Jiji fluency plus regular Jiji as part of daily homework.  All students need to get on Jiji fluency daily to help build automaticity in math facts AND if they are not meeting their regular Jiji monthly goal, they should all do regular Jiji as well.  Each week, they have time to do regular Jiji in the classroom.  However, students need to make good use of their time and work efficiently.  Otherwise, they will need to supplement with additional time at home to catch up.

    Additional Announcements:

We are piloting the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program this year in third grade with Chromebooks.  Thank you for your patience as we are all experiencing a huge learning curve together.  Students will not need to bring their Chromebooks to school until the Monday after Back to School Night.  There will be an informational meeting from 6:00-6:30p.m. in the Media Center with our district's technology teacher on special assignment, along with our technology support, to help you set up your Chromebooks, download applications, and answer questions you may have.  Please remember to bring your Chromebooks.  This will be held right BEFORE our regular BTSN.  The district is working on a step-by-step instructional packet with screenshots to send home to parents who aren't able to attend this meeting.

Students need to bring in earbuds (with their names on them) for their personal use. Several have purchased them through the school supply list already and have received them. We are excited to be able to utilize the technology increasingly this year to enhance classroom instruction.

    Scholastic Book Clubs Ordering Information

I try to have a book order out at least once every 1-2 months in order to give students wonderful opportunities to build up their home libraries. You can order online (no checks please) and books are usually delivered 2-3 weeks later.

The due date online will be:

Purchasing books for your child will also give our classroom bonus points that I can use to order additional books for the class library.  I also welcome any book donations as well. :)  Even though I include some catalogs when I send book orders home, you can actually order from any catalog from Scholastic (for older and younger siblings too).
