Vision
We Ignite Unlimited Possibilities for all of our students.
Philosophy
At Los Alamitos Unified School District (LAUSD), we are committed to igniting unlimited possibilities for all students by providing high-quality, inclusive services that honor each student’s strengths, needs, and unique educational journey. Our Special Education Department plays a vital role in supporting this vision by offering an array of student support services and a full continuum of special education programs, from preschool through adult transition. These services, delivered in a variety of settings, are designed to help students with mild to intensive disabilities benefit from their education, develop independence, and thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
Rooted in the district’s priority of passionately pursuing academic excellence, we provide exemplary instruction and targeted interventions that prepare students for college, career, and lifelong success. Every student’s services are determined through the Individualized Education Program (IEP) process, which is student-centered and focuses on their strengths, unique needs, and goals. The IEP process ensures that supports are carefully designed to provide meaningful educational benefit in the least restrictive environment.
Aligned with our goal to cultivate a caring, inclusive, and equitable environment, our programs emphasize creating safe, supportive spaces where students feel connected and valued. We are dedicated to fostering a culture that embraces diversity and promotes student and staff wellness. In addition, our commitment to fostering collaborative partnerships means we work closely with families, staff, and the community to ensure shared responsibility in supporting student success.
Guided by our core values of care, responsibility, equity, and honor, we remain steadfast in our mission to meet the needs of all students and celebrate the diversity of their educational paths.
