Hello and Welcome Huskies,
I am a veteran teacher of Hopkinson Elementary School. I began my teaching career at this school in Third grade. Since then, I have taught Fourth grade and Fifth Grade, as well as the 4/5 combo. Recently, I was assigned to a First grade position.
First grade has been an exciting and refreshing change. I am privileged to continue the strong foundation established by our kindergarten teachers. As a first grade teacher, I look forward to continuing their development as readers and writers. Students will have many opportunities throughout the day to read; read to self, read to others, and listen to reading. I incorporate writing across the curriculum and look for ways to share our learning through writing.
In first grade, we explore a wide variety of science topics in the three science disciplines: physical science , earth science, and life science. We look at our past history, changes over time, and traditions and heritage in social science.
Mathematics affords the opportunity to explore relationships with numbers and to increase students knowledge and understanding of beginning math concepts with addition and subtraction. We explore time and calendar, numbers through 120, geometry, problem solving and much more.
I strive to make our classroom and safe and fun place to be and to learn. I welcome parent involvement and parent volunteers. Please do not hesitate to talk with me if you have any concerns, or if you just wish to say hello and to touch base. I look forward to an exciting year of great learning and growth.
